3D-PROTOTYPING

 

 

Workshop Lasercutting

  • Workshop in English or Dutch – by Jonas or Lieven – max 10 people
  • Duration: approximately 1 hour
  • cost: 5 euro for non VUB-students/free for VUB-students & people younger than 18

 

Workshop 3D-printing

  • You will need a laptop for this workshop!
  • Workshop in English -  by Lieven – max 12 people
  • Duration: either 1 or 2 hours
  • Cost: 5 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18
  • Contents:
    • How to use the Ultimaker 3D-printers
    • Changing filament, different materials
    • How to use the Prusa 3D-printers
  • This workshop is required  to get access to the 3D-printers.

 

Workshop CNC-Milling

  • You will need a laptop for this workshop!
  • Workshop in English or Dutch – by Jonas or Lieven – max 10 people
  • Duration: approx 3h
  • Prerequisites: a basic knowledge of either Fusion360 or Autodesk inventor.
    (this workshop is about 3D-milling, it does not teach 3D-modelling)
  • Cost: 10 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18

 

  • Contents:
    • How to set up a file /toolpaths for the machines
    • Use of the EdingCNC controllers.
    • All our CNC-machines use the same controller, if you know how to use one, you should be able to use them all.
    • How to mount/fix stock
    • Types of endmill cutters
    • Milling a first part in wood
  • This workshop is required to get access to the small BZT, the ISEL, the Nick & the RIVA CNC-machines
  • This workshop does not give access to the Hartford, this is a more advanced machine for expert users.

 

 

ELECTRONICS

 

Basic electronics skills

  • Workshop in English – by  Jurgen & Abdellah – max 12 people
  • Duration 2h
  • Cost: 5 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18
  •  This workshop will show how to correctly use a multimeter, power supply and oscilloscope for debugging, what to pay attention to while soldering and how to use the hot-air rework station.

 

 

Using the etching bath for making PCB’s

  • Workshop in English – by Quentin & Jan - max 12 people
  • Duration 1h30
  • Cost: 5 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18
  • This workshop introduces you into the safe and clean use of the etching tank. You will learn how to create a PCB from a black-and-white stencil using photo-etching.

 

 

 

 METALWORKING

 

 Workshop MIG welding

  • Workshop in English -  by Tanel – max 5 people
  • Duration: approx 3h
  • Cost: 10 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18

 

  • Contents:
    • How to use the welding machines safely and without damaging them
    • Basic welding technique
    • The use of jigs
    • How to build a steel structure that is straight & level
  • This workshop is required  to get access to the MIG-welders.

 

Workshop Metalworking Safety

  • Workshop in English -  by Tanel – max 8 people
  • Duration: approx 45 min
  • Cost: free for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18
  • Content:
    • you will learn how to use the different metal working machines in a safe way
    • machines: drill press, miter saw, bench grinder,
    • the necessary safety precautions for working with these machines will be adressed.
  • This workshop is required to get access to the machines.
  • You will need long pants, long sleeves, closed shoes. Wear cotton, not polyester. N o flammable clothing!
  • Gloves and masks are provided in the workshop

 

Workshop introduction to metalworking

  • Workshop in English -  by Tanel – max 5 people
  • Duration: approx 3h
  • Cost: 20 euro for non VUB-students /  free for VUB-students & people younger than 18
  • Content:
  • –        common metals and uses–        common metal combinations–        how to protect metals from corrosion–        how to join different metals (riveting,bolting, pinning, welding,gluing)

    –        drilling (metals, lubciration, pecking, de-burring, speeds and feeds)

    –        filing (metals, how to do it, what is it used for, types of files).
